We’re a Family Shop – Providing Quality Cycling Products

Welcome to Mole Hill Bikes, a full service bicycle shop located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We strive to give you competitive pricing along with our good old fashioned service. We’re a Family Shop-Providing Quality Cycling Products

In the mid-eighties, Gerald Knicely saw the need for a bike shop in the Dayton area. After learning that Back Alley Bikes had closed in Harrisonburg, he was able to purchase their equipment and inventory with a loan from an uncle. Mole Hill Bikes was started in a storage building that Gerald built on his dad’s dairy farm, at the base of Mole Hill, a small mountain in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley.

In 1992, Gerald purchased the Dr. Jake Huffman property, added on the existing showroom and moved the shop to Dayton.

Today, 30 years later, Mole Hill Bikes continues to provide personal service and value to each customer in the Shenandoah Valley and beyond.

Gerald continues to manage the day to day details of Mole Hill Bikes. He loves the challenge of researching brands and products to find options that offer exceptional quality and value to the customer. Providing quality products and personal service is still a top priority for each customer. He enjoys gardening and working outside in general. He is always looking for a new place to go camping with his wife and five children, especially if it has a nearby rail trail to bike on.

Jana Walters

LIV Ambassador

Jana Walters is the Liv Women’s Ambassador at Mole Hill Bike Shop located in Dayton, VA. Being an Ambassador means she is interested in promoting cycling as an activity/lifestyle and advocates to get more women on bicycles. At all of the Liv Cycling and Mole Hill Bike Shop events you can expect a supportive environment with friendly and eager assistance. Our group motto is “No stopwatches. No egos.” Our ladies events are short distance, casual paced (no drop) rides intended to be inviting to a new or more timid rider, though more experienced riders are welcome and may even get to lead or sweep a ride!

The Liv Ambassador Program aims to connect women across the country with the Liv brand. Ambassadors act as a liaison of the Liv brand in their region and will lead rides, give informational clinics and act as a go-to resource for Liv and general cycling related information. Through these activities Liv Cycling USA hopes to grow more committed, inclusive and inviting communities of female cyclists, and as a result become the brand women most often associate with women’s cycling.

Jana is employed at JMU and is a faculty member in the Kinesiology department. Keep up with the events she’s offering through the shop by following Mole Hill Bikes on Facebook, or email Jana to be added to the email list: jana.walters1@gmail.com. Ladies events will continue to be offered throughout the summer into October or November, depending on how long the weather stays mild.
